CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the leadership of Executive Professor Ajay Singh, the Pediatrics Department of AIIMS celebrated ORS Day. Professor Singh emphasized that by adopting small measures, we can keep future generations empowered and healthy. He also highlighted the importance of children’s hygiene, as poor hygiene can cause numerous diseases. ORS Day is celebrated as part of ORS Week from July 25-31. Various activities were organized in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and the SMART Unit of the Pediatrics Department to prevent dehydration in children. The aim of the event was to spread awareness about diarrhea and highlight the importance of ORS (Oral Rehydration Salt). An awareness program was held in the AIIMS OPD area, attended by around 110 participants.
The head of the Pediatrics Department, Dr. Shikha Malik, discussed the theme of ORS Day 2024: “Prevent Diarrhea with Hygiene and ORS.” She pointed out that cleanliness is crucial for children and that even today, children suffering from diarrhea often do not receive ORS in time, making diarrhea the third leading cause of death among children under five.
Dr. Bhavna Dhingra, the nodal officer of the SMART Unit, explained the use and importance of low osmolarity ORS, tri-sodium citrate ORS, rice-based ORS, homemade ORS, and super ORS.
Another awareness program was organized in the SMART Unit for the parents of children admitted to the Pediatrics Department, attended by around 40 participants.
