CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An international conference titled “Pre Lokmanthan” is scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind in Bhopal on September 21 and 22. The theme of the conference is “Herbal Healing Systems in Oral Tradition: Conservation, Promotion, and Action Plan.” This two-day international conference is being organized under the joint auspices of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind, Pragya Pravah, Anthropos India Foundation, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, and Dattopant Thengadi Research Institute, Bhopal.

The organizers provided details to the press, including IGNM Director Prof. Dr. Amitabh Pandey, MCU Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.G. Suresh, AIF President and Conference Coordinator Dr. Sunita Reddy from JNU, New Delhi, along with Lalpat Ahuja and Dhirendra Chaturvedi from Pragya Pravah, and MCU Dean (Academic) Prof. P. Shashikala.

Dr. Sunita Reddy mentioned that Padma Shri Yaning Jamoh Lego (from Arunachal Pradesh) will be a special attendee at the conference. The international conference will feature research papers and academic posters presented by teachers and researchers on topics such as herbal healing, non-codified herbal treatments, climate change, biodiversity, plantation, and health communication. She also noted that the deadline for submitting full research papers is September 20.

MCU’s Dr. K.G. Suresh stated that the university’s role is to disseminate the conference to as many people as possible through mass communication and to increase public awareness of traditional medicine practices. He added that research papers have been invited from scholars across the country, and these will be published later.

IGRM Director Prof. Amitabh Pandey emphasized that tribes are deeply connected to their language, customs, religious beliefs, and traditions. For their livelihood, these forest dwellers rely heavily on wild animals and plants, whether it be for food, clothing, building materials, and more.
