CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: IGNOU achieved a significant milestone in the New Year with the successful inauguration of its Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Rairangpur Regional Centre and Skill Centre from the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi.

The inauguration took place in the august presence of Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Jayant Chaudhary; Secretary, Department of Higher Education Vineet Joshi; Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy Sanjay Kumar; Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Debashree Mukherjee; IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Uma Kanjilal, along with other distinguished dignitaries. Participants from the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur, Odisha, as well as representatives from other regional centres across India, also joined the programme virtually.

Addressing the gathering, the President expressed her happiness while inaugurating the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur. She stated that making higher education and learning support accessible to learners in this region is an important step. She congratulated Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his team for establishing the IGNOU Regional Centre at Rairangpur. She further noted that the establishment of the IGNOU Skill Centre at Rairangpur, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, is a commendable initiative and will prove to be a valuable asset, especially for women, rural communities, and tribal populations in the region.

Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated future learners of Rairangpur on the establishment of the IGNOU Regional Centre. He emphasized how the Rairangpur Regional Centre and Skill Centre would benefit farmers, tribal communities, and marginalized groups, supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat. In his opening remarks, Jayant Chaudhary supported the AI Readiness Course as part of the Skill the Nation Challenge campaign. IGNOU is making a successful contribution to the national effort of implementing a lifelong learning model under the National Education Policy.

The programme concluded with a vision to empower a future-ready workforce for India through AI-driven technologies. The MSDE initiative SOAR is a step closer toward AI readiness in India. The efforts of IGNOU’s Rairangpur Regional Centre and Skill Centre also envision contributing to nation-building in this direction.
