CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Gas-affected patients will not face any inconvenience when referred from one hospital to another. Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) along with the Gas Relief Department have strengthened the referral system together. For this purpose, a common referral form has been prepared.

When doctors from any hospital of BMHRC or Gas Relief Department (such as Kamla Nehru Hospital, Shakir Ali Khan Hospital, Jawaharlal Nehru Gas Relief Hospital, etc.) refer a patient, they will have to fill out this form, and the hospital being referred to must be notified. Moreover, if any inconvenience arises during the treatment at the referred hospital, assistance will also be provided.

Dr. Manisha Shrivastava, Director of BMHRC, stated that currently, certain departments like Medicine, Orthopedics, Gynecology, and Dermatology are not available in our hospital. Similarly, departments like Cardiology, Urology, and Nephrology are not available in Gas Relief Department hospitals. In such cases, patients often need to be referred to both BMHRC and Gas Relief hospitals. To ensure no inconvenience to patients during this referral process, a meeting was recently held between officials of BMHRC and Gas Relief Department to improve the current arrangements.

During this meeting, a common referral form was prepared. BMHRC and all Gas Relief hospitals will use this form when referring any patient. This form will contain the patient’s personal information along with details of their illness, current condition, and examinations, ensuring that all information reaches the doctors at the referred hospital.

While referring, doctors of the respective hospital will inform the doctors of the referred hospital. For this purpose, a list of telephone numbers of all hospitals has been shared. A list has also been prepared detailing the facilities available in each hospital. Doctors will refer patients according to this list to avoid any inconvenience. Medical social workers will also contact the patient or their relatives by phone to assist if the referred hospital provides appropriate treatment or not.

Dr. Manisha Shrivastava mentioned that there are also some departments that are not available either at BMHRC or any Gas Relief Hospital. In such cases, patients will be referred to Hamidia Hospital by filling out the common referral form, and social workers will establish coordination with the patient for this.

There has been a decrease in the number of referred patients: Dr. Manisha Shrivastava mentioned that due to most of the ICU/CCU/CTVS ICU beds being occupied, patients often need to be referred. Currently, a total of 27 beds are available in ICU/CCU/CTVS ICU. Efforts are being made to increase their number. Patients referred from the Dialysis and Emergency Medical Unit are transported to the relevant hospital by ambulance. She stated that our endeavor is to treat every patient coming to the available departments in BMHRC and avoid referring them elsewhere.
