CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “In connection with International Yoga Day, a session of asanas, pranayama, and guided meditation was organized by the AYUSH department of AIIMS Bhopal on June 18, 2024, at the ‘Apna Ghar’ old age home located in Rohit Nagar, Bhopal. This program was conducted under the leadership of AIIMS Executive Director Professor Ajay Singh as part of various outreach programs for International Yoga Day. Dr. Singh believes that the main objective of Yoga Day is to make yoga accessible to the general public. Our goal should be to introduce every section of society to the benefits of yoga and encourage them to incorporate yoga into their daily activities. Under his guidance, the session emphasized developing qualities such as peace, patience, and affection, which are crucial for the elderly.

As people age, bone density decreases, leading to issues such as osteoporosis. Joints also become stiff, making it difficult for people, especially those suffering from arthritis and other mobility issues, to move freely. Regular yoga practice can prevent or slow down this bone loss and provide relief from the pain associated with osteoporosis. It also strengthens the muscles around the joints in the ankles, knees, hips, back, and wrists, which helps keep the body moving.

The program created an atmosphere of collective well-being and spirituality suitable for the health of the elderly, including brief prayers, guidance on maintaining proper posture, chanting exercises to focus the mind and heart, guided meditation, visualization exercises, asanas, pranayama, and more. The session was conducted by yoga instructor Chanchal Suryavanshi from the AYUSH department and Dr. Varun Malhotra from the Physiology department. Senior Medical Officer Danish Javed from the AYUSH department gave a vote of thanks.”
