CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Professor Ajay Singh, Executive Director of MS Bhopal, for the first time, the lives of 3 children suffering from rare and complex congenital heart disease were saved without any operation by the cardiologist of the hospital, Dr. Bhushan Shah and his team.

Out of which two children were less than 1 year old and all three were suffering from serious heart disease. In the first case, a 2-month-old girl whose weight was 2kg.

Both the arteries of his heart were connected. Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a congenital heart defect that occurs when the normal channel between the fetal pulmonary artery and aorta does not close at birth. Due to which his heart was in a state of failure. In such a situation, it was almost impossible to perform the operation because the girl could have lost her life. Cardiologist Dr. Bhushan Shah, with the help of echocardiography, closed this channel without surgery by using Nitinol device through a vein in the waist.

After this procedure, the child started drinking mother’s milk and the symptoms of heart failure also started reducing. He was discharged from the hospital after only three days. Another similar procedure was also done on an 11-month-old child. Before coming to AIIMS Bhopal, he was shown in many big hospitals of the country. But considering the young age of the child, the doctors refused to treat him. Doctors of AIIMS Bhopal donated life to the child through Nitinol device without any operation.

In the third case, in a 3-year-old child, due to a hole between the two heart chambers, oxygenated blood from the heart was not able to reach the entire body. This is called VSD or ventricular septal defect.  This is a condition when a hole forms in the wall between the two lower chambers of the heart. There is a possibility of slowing down the heart rate while closing this hole with the Nitinol device.

But cardiologist Bhushan Shah successfully closed the hole by efficiently delivering the appropriately sized Nitinol device through the artery to the heart chamber without surgery and gave a new life to the child.

For the first time in AIIMS Bhopal, such low weight children suffering from heart disease have been treated through Nitinol device.

In these cases, the cardiac anesthesia team played an important role under the leadership of Dr. Pooja Singh. It is also necessary to mention here that all the three children were treated completely free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and now all these children are healthy. AIIMS Bhopal Executive Director Ajay Singh has congratulated the entire team for facing new challenges and providing best patient care.
