CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Three-Day International Conference Begins at Sarojini Naidu Government Girls PG (Autonomous) College, Bhopal

A three-day international conference was inaugurated at Sarojini Naidu Government Girls Postgraduate (Autonomous) College, Bhopal, in the esteemed presence of Prof. S.K. Jain, Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, as the Chief Guest, and Mathura Prasad, Additional Director of Higher Education, Bhopal-Narmadapuram Division, as the Guest of Honour.

The conference is sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the National Research Foundation, and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Conference Coordinator Dr. Sanjay Sahay informed during the inaugural session that experts, researchers, and scientists from countries such as the USA, Finland, Brazil, China, Ecuador, and Mexico are participating both online and offline. The discussions will revolve around microorganisms found in extreme conditions, known as extremophiles.

Extremely harsh environments such as Antarctica, ocean depths, volcanoes, saline lakes, hot springs, and radioactive zones are home to these extremophiles.

Principal Dr. Deepti Srivastava, in her address, explained that lectures will focus on how biomolecules from extremophiles can be utilized in agriculture, medicine, industry, and cosmetics.

She highlighted the example of the RT-PCR technology, which played a crucial role in detecting COVID-19 patients. This technology was made possible by the enzyme Taq polymerase, derived from extremophiles.

Similarly, sunscreen molecules and other ingredients used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products are also derived from extremophiles.

This international conference has attracted a large number of researchers and scientists from India and abroad, participating in hybrid mode, and promises to foster groundbreaking scientific discussions and collaborations.
