CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “Practical training was given to teachers on effective implementation of OBE, evaluation of academic outcomes and quality enhancement; certificates were presented to participants.”
Bhopal. The three-day capacity-building programme and hands-on workshop on outcome-based education, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Scope Global Skills University, Bhopal, concluded successfully. The objective of the workshop was to provide teachers with practical training on the concept of OBE, its effective implementation and continuous improvement in academic quality.
J. R. Sharma, Principal Consultant and expert adviser at Accreditation-Edge Stemvogel Consulting, provided expert guidance at the workshop. Through various sessions, he informed teachers about the key aspects of outcome-based education and its effective use in academic processes.
During the workshop, detailed discussions were held on topics such as the vision and mission of the university and departments, programme educational objectives, programme outcomes, programme-specific outcomes, course outcomes and coordination among them. The process of preparing outcome mapping, Bloom’s Taxonomy, course teaching plans and course assessment plans was explained through practical examples.
Participants were trained in preparing evaluation criteria for question papers and assignments, summarising course attainment and using direct and indirect assessment methods. Special emphasis was also placed on evaluating the outcomes of academic programmes and identifying areas for improvement through student feedback, student exit surveys and employer surveys.
Expert J. R. Sharma said outcome-based education is not limited only to prescribed academic outcomes, but is a comprehensive process of teaching, assessment, analysis of outcomes and continuous improvement. He encouraged teachers to develop teaching methods and evaluation systems in line with the prescribed learning outcomes.
SGSU Chancellor Siddharth Chaturvedi said, “The quality of higher education is assessed not merely by completion of the syllabus, but by what students are actually learning and how they are able to use that knowledge. Outcome-based education is an effective medium to link teaching and assessment with clear academic outcomes. Such workshops help teachers adopt modern academic methods and improve the overall development of students.”
University Vice Chancellor Vijay Singh said, “Effective implementation of OBE makes the teaching-learning process more systematic, outcome-oriented and effective. It is necessary for teachers to regularly analyse course outcomes, evaluation criteria and students’ progress. Such capacity-building programmes play an important role in strengthening academic quality and developing a culture of continuous improvement.”
Registrar Sitesh Sinha said, “To make the quality assurance process effective in the university, coordination among academic plans, teaching methods and evaluation systems is essential. This workshop focused on OBE will prove useful in helping teachers improve their teaching processes in line with prescribed academic outcomes and take forward efforts for quality enhancement.”
At the closing session of the workshop, the university expressed gratitude to J. R. Sharma for his expert guidance and contribution. He was presented a letter of appreciation for his participation as an expert adviser. Teachers and other participants who attended the workshop were also given certificates as proof of their participation.
The initiative reflects Scope Global Skills University’s commitment to continuously improving the quality of education through faculty development, academic excellence and effective implementation of outcome-based education.
