CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: During a protest at Delhi Police headquarters on Monday, a placard carried by police personnel drew everyone’s attention. It carried photographs of three officers with the words “OUR HEROES FOREVER” written on it. The police personnel described these officers as their ideals. They included former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, senior IPS officer Deepak Mishra and ACP Manasvi Vashishth, who recently faced a transfer.
The poster seen during the protest carried Manasvi Vashishth’s photograph along with those of Kiran Bedi and Deepak Mishra. Through the poster, the police personnel sought to convey that they respect officers who, according to them, remain committed to their duty and to the interests of police personnel even under pressure.
Kiran Bedi joined the IPS in 1972. In Delhi Police, she held several important responsibilities, including ASP of Chanakyapuri, DCP of West Delhi and assignments in the traffic police. Later, she also served as Inspector General of Tihar Jail. In 2007, she took voluntary retirement from the post of Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development.
Deepak Mishra is a 1984-batch IPS officer. He served in several posts in Delhi Police, including DCP, Joint Commissioner of Police and Special Commissioner of Police (Administration). In April 2016, he was sent to the CRPF on central deputation.
The third name is that of ACP Manasvi Vashishth, who became a focal point of support among police personnel after the recent controversy. She was transferred after a dispute linked to a lawyer at Shahdara police station. Police personnel protested at the headquarters against this decision and demanded that she be reinstated to her previous post.
During the protest, a police personnel who arrived carrying the poster was not allowed to enter the meeting. However, the placard brought into discussion questions within the police department relating to respect for officers, leadership and the morale of the force.
