In Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Sarkanda police station in-charge Pradeep Arya has been attached to the lines in connection with the registration of an FIR against a Mahasamund Family Court judge. SSP Rajnesh Singh has issued an order removing him from charge of the police station with immediate effect. TI Naresh Chauhan has been made the new in-charge of Sarkanda police station in his place.
The entire matter is linked to a dispute during a property businessman’s birthday party in Rajkishore Nagar. On the night of October 31, judge Praful Kumar Sonwani, posted at the Mahasamund Family Court, was at his in-laws’ house in Bilaspur with his family. It is alleged that late at night, drums were being played at high volume and fireworks were being set off during the birthday celebration. When an objection was raised, the dispute escalated and the judge, his wife and other family members were allegedly assaulted.
FIRs registered on complaints from both sides
After the incident, a case was registered against property businessman Abhay Barua and his associates on the judge’s complaint. At the same time, on the complaint of the other side, an FIR was also registered against judge Praful Sonwani, his wife and his brother-in-law. Judicial officers had objected to the procedure followed in registering the case against the judge.
Naresh Chauhan given charge of the police station
After SSP Rajnesh Singh returned from leave, information emerged that replies had been sought from the officials concerned in the entire matter. After this, Pradeep Arya was attached to the lines. However, the order issued by the police department described the reason for the action as administrative. It did not directly cite the registration of the FIR as the reason for the action.
Naresh Chauhan has been assigned the new responsibility of Sarkanda police station. Earlier, he has been posted at Ratanpur, Sipat and Kota police stations.
