After the presence of a tiger was recorded in the forests of Maharashtra’s Beed district after nearly 100 years, its movements are now being reported continuously. The tiger, born in the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Yavatmal district, reached Beed after travelling through several districts. Its image has been captured in a camera trap for the second time in a little over two months. The latest image was recorded on November 2 in a camera installed near Bhurewadi village in the Ashti forest area.

According to forest department officials, the tiger was born in 2022 to tigress T-22 in Yavatmal’s Tipeshwar sanctuary. After growing up, it left its original territory and moved in search of a new area. During this period, it moved through different forest areas of Maharashtra via Chandrapur, Dharashiv, Latur and Ahilyanagar districts. Its presence was also recorded in the Kari area of Barshi tehsil in Solapur district. It later reached the Patoda area of Beed.

Forest officials said the tiger had hunted two cattle in Sagalewadi and Jarewadi in Patoda tehsil in mid-October. Later, an image of it drinking water at a water source in the Naigaon Mayur sanctuary also surfaced.

In view of the tiger’s continued presence, the forest department has issued a cautionary advisory for farmers and villagers in nearby villages. People have been urged to avoid going alone near the forest edge and into dense forest areas, and to immediately inform the forest department if the tiger is sighted. The department is continuously monitoring its movements through camera traps.
