CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An Excellent Example of Medical Expertise at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC)
A remarkable case of medical proficiency has emerged from the Gastro Medicine Department of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC). A 54-year-old patient from Lalitpur (U.P.) had a tooth stuck in his esophagus, which was successfully removed without surgery, using endoscopy, thereby saving his life from serious danger.
The patient had been unable to swallow food for a long time and was surviving on liquids only. He was also experiencing difficulty in speaking. For treatment, he had visited several hospitals in Lalitpur, Jhansi, Gwalior, and Bhopal. Examinations revealed a hard object — possibly a tooth — lodged in his esophagus. Attempts to remove it through endoscopy in Gwalior failed. Subsequently, doctors at various hospitals informed that surgery would be required to extract the tooth, but considering the patient’s age and condition, surgery posed a high risk and could have endangered his life.
The patient then arrived at BMHRC, where, considering his critical condition, an emergency endoscopy was performed on the same day. Led by Dr. Tripti Mishra, Visiting Consultant of the Gastroenterology Department, the endoscopy team carefully completed this complex procedure and successfully removed the tooth safely. Continuous monitoring of the patient was maintained throughout the process to prevent any potential complications. The endoscopy team included Chief Medical Officer Abdul Rashid, Medical Officer Abhay Mishra, Endoscopy Supervisor Shivji Thakur, Nursing Officer Smita Singh, Technicians Rakesh Sirmolia, Kaluram Meena, Md. Sharik, and Obaiz Jamal Farrukhi, who together accomplished this sensitive procedure successfully. After the successful endoscopy, the patient is now able to eat normally and is experiencing relief in speaking as well.
Manisha Srivastava, Director In-Charge of BMHRC, said:
“This case exemplifies the medical vigilance, teamwork, and technical expertise of our institution. Even in severe and complex cases, we are committed to making life-saving decisions without delay. This success demonstrates that expertise combined with readiness can make the impossible possible. BMHRC is a trusted center not only for those suffering from gastric problems but for every patient in need.”
