CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The tourism and hotel industry accounts for eight percent of India’s total employment, and around eight lakh jobs are expected in the sector in 2026-27, experts said at a seminar on “Employment Opportunities in Tourism and Hotel Management” held at Babulal Gaur Government Postgraduate College, BHEL, Bhopal. They said educated youth have new employment opportunities in the sector.
Inaugurating the seminar at BHEL College, Prakash Parihar, former general manager of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, said tourists need basic facilities such as destinations, stay, food and entertainment, and these create employment opportunities. He said the trend of homestays is growing rapidly. Psychologist Prof Rajneesh Jain said the success of the industry depends on tourists feeling good and being satisfied. Services should be provided after understanding the psychological level of the tourist, he said.
Tourism expert and former DGM of the Tourism Corporation Mahesh Dixit said the scope for front-office jobs is strong in 2026-27. There will be more than 50,000 vacancies, including desk executive, reservation assistant, guest service associate, duty manager and rooms division manager in front-office roles. He said three- and four-star hotels are opening rapidly in tier-2 cities such as Bhopal, Indore, Surat, Lucknow and Jaipur.
Educated youth are getting new employment opportunities in destination weddings, event management, guest handling, online reviews and information technology-based services, the speakers said.

At the start of the seminar, Principal Dr Sanjay Jain welcomed all the guests and said around eight lakh jobs are expected in the tourism and hotel industry in the 2026-27 session. He said demand for IT experts is increasing rapidly. Online ticketing and booking, along with constant movement at tourist destinations, is increasing local employment opportunities. Study of travel, tourism and hotel subjects has also increased self-employment opportunities in the sector.
Subject expert Dr Usha Parihar said youth with a PG diploma or degree in tourism and hotel management cannot remain unemployed, as demand for them in the sector is increasing day by day. Yoga and Ayurveda have also increased the attraction of tourism in India, she said.
Course coordinator Dr R K Sharma thanked all the subject experts who attended the seminar and gave information about the PG Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management and B Com Travel Tourism courses being run at the college at a minimum fee.
