CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The tourism industry generates nearly 48 million jobs in India, providing extensive employment opportunities across various sectors. For tourists from developed countries, traveling in India is relatively affordable, which increases its global appeal. Students holding postgraduate diplomas and degrees in tourism and hotel management gain access to quick employment opportunities. These views were expressed by subject experts at Babulal Gaur Government Postgraduate College, BHEL, Bhopal.
A seminar on “Employment Opportunities in the Tourism Industry” was organized by the Department of Tourism, Travel, and Hotel Management at BHEL College. Addressing the seminar, subject expert Pallav Gaur stated that according to the World Travel & Tourism Council, the tourism industry in India generates 48 million jobs, including both direct and indirect employment, accounting for 9.1 percent of the country’s total employment. He added that India is perceived as a cost-effective destination by tourists from developed nations, making it an attractive travel choice.

He further highlighted that medical and wellness tourism, eco-tourism, wedding tourism, and rural tourism are emerging segments within the tourism industry. Mahesh Chandra Dixit, former General Manager of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, stated that graduates and postgraduates with degrees or diplomas in travel, tourism, and hotel management find employment quickly. He also noted that commerce graduates can build careers in tourism accounting.
In addition to tour package agencies and tourist guiding, there is growing demand for educated youth in event management, meditation, yoga, religious tourism, and cultural tourism. While inaugurating the seminar, Principal Sanjay Jain said that the tourism sector offers a wide diversity of employment opportunities that vary by location and circumstances. He emphasized that students educated with tourism degrees and diplomas can play a significant role in the tourism industry.
The seminar was conducted by Anupama Geete. During the session, students’ queries were addressed by subject experts. At the conclusion, course coordinator Chitra Khare expressed gratitude to all participants. The seminar witnessed the participation of Sanjay Bankar, Arun Sen, Poonam Barbade, along with many students and staff members.
