CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “Traditional Medicine is the Best.” This statement was made by Inder Singh Parmar, the Minister of Higher Education, Technical Education, and AYUSH in Madhya Pradesh. He was speaking at the closing session of the two-day international conference on “Herbal Healing Systems in Oral Tradition: Conservation, Promotion, and Action Plan,” held at the Museum of Mankind.
After his address, Director Parmar also visited the Tribal Healers’ Camp, where he met traditional folk healers from tribal communities across 18 states in the country. While speaking at the conference, he noted that people have become dependent on allopathy, whereas traditional medicine is the best. He emphasized the need for the documentation of traditional medicine. Director Parmar described Indian traditional knowledge as a treasure that is deeply embedded in Indian society.
He praised the previous Lok Manthan conference and stated that the government would provide positive support on this topic. On this occasion, a draft of suggestions received during the conference was also submitted to AYUSH Minister Inder Singh Parmar. It is noteworthy that India’s indigenous tradition has been preserved at the local level by practitioners living within communities for hundreds of years. This tradition provides medical care based on lineage and experience at the local level. Various sessions were chaired by J. Nandakumar, National Coordinator of Pragya Pravah and a distinguished speaker and thinker; Avinash Vajpayee, Secretary of MCU; P. Shashikala, Dean (Academic); Sunita Reddy, Conference Coordinator; Amitabh Pandey, Director of the Museum of Mankind; and P.C. Joshi, who also expressed their views. Ms. Sudipa Roy expressed gratitude. The previous Lok Manthan conference was organized by Pragya Pravah in collaboration with the Dattopant Thengadi Research Institute and Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication at the Museum of Mankind.
