With the aim of increasing transparency over the quality of mobile networks and internet services in the country, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched the “Network Anubhav” platform on 4 November. It is a geospatial and analytical dashboard through which consumers will be able to access information on the network performance and internet speed of different telecom companies in their area. Along with viewing network-related data on the platform, an online facility has also been provided to complain about unwanted calls and messages.
The Network Anubhav platform brings together consumers’ test data received through TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall apps and the results of independent drive tests conducted by the authority. Consumers can select their area on the map and view the download and upload speeds of mobile networks and fixed broadband. In addition, results can also be filtered on the basis of service provider and network technology. This will make it easier to compare network services available at homes, offices or other locations.
Speed benchmarks such as P50, P80 and P90 will also be shown on the platform. However, TRAI has clarified that figures based on users’ tests are not a complete technical assessment of network quality, but provide information about consumers’ experience in different areas.
Another important feature is the DND web service. Through this, consumers can register their preferences for commercial messages and calls, complain about unwanted commercial communication and also track the status of their complaint.
According to TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti, the platform will help consumers understand the actual condition of network services and help telecom companies identify and improve areas with weak networks. The platform can be accessed at https://anubhav.trai.gov.in.
