“CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal:” The cumulative Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests since the inception of the service increased from 1,025.78 million at the end of August to 1,039.11 million at the end of September, as per data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday.

In September alone, 13.32 million subscriber requests for MNP were registered, slightly down from the 14.66 million requests in August.

Key Highlights from TRAI Data:

  • Active Wireless Subscribers: The number of active wireless subscribers in September stood at 1,059.97 million.
  • Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Connections: M2M cellular mobile connections rose from 54.07 million in August to 54.64 million in September, with Bharti Airtel leading with 28.44 million connections and a 52.06% market share.
  • Broadband Subscribers: Total broadband subscribers declined from 949.21 million in August to 944.40 million in September, marking a 0.51% monthly decline.
  • Wireless Subscribers: The total number of wireless subscribers dropped from 1,163.83 million in August to 1,153.72 million in September, a decline rate of 0.87%.
  • Wireline Subscribers: In contrast, wireline subscribers saw a net increase of 0.70 million, growing from 36.23 million in August to 36.93 million in September, reflecting a monthly growth rate of 1.93%.
  • Tele-density Trends:
    • Wireless tele-density in India fell from 82.85% in August to 82.07% in September.
    • Overall tele-density also declined from 85.43% to 84.69%.

Market Share Insights:

Private access service providers continued to dominate the market, holding a 91.85% share of wireless subscribers. Public sector units BSNL and MTNL managed an 8.15% share.

TRAI’s data underscores a mixed trend in the telecom sector, with significant growth in MNP and wireline services but a noticeable decline in broadband and wireless subscribers.
