CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, the National Health Mission has launched a three-day joint training program for community health officers on emergency health services and VIA-based cervical cancer screening. The initiative aims to provide advanced and accessible healthcare services to the community through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
The first batch of the training was conducted at the Government Medical College, Seoni, where experts from the medical college trained 35 community health officers in emergency care and VIA screening skills. Through mannequin-based hands-on practice, participants received training and practice in essential techniques such as CPR, ABCDE assessment, respiratory and circulatory emergencies, trauma management, bleeding control, and maternal and neonatal emergencies.
Under the VIA training, participants were provided with detailed information on cervical anatomy, steps of the VIA procedure, use of acetic acid during screening, interpretation of VIA-positive and VIA-negative results, counseling, infection control, documentation, and referral procedures.
Participants practiced the VIA procedure techniques and acquired valuable skills. This training is an important step toward the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer in women, which will increase screening coverage in the community and improve the quality of healthcare services.
In the upcoming phases, similar training sessions will be organized at medical colleges in Mandsaur, Satna, and Vidisha, ensuring that all community health officers in the state gain the technical competencies required for emergency management and VIA screening.
With the support of state medical colleges, this initiative will provide a new direction and momentum to women’s health and emergency care services.
