CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A continuous Medical Education (CME) workshop on biomarker interpretation in breast cancer was organized by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal.

The program was inaugurated by the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Mr. Ajay Singh, who appreciated the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for organizing such events. Professor Singh emphasized the importance of raising awareness about quickly diagnosing cancer. Timely detection plays a crucial role in improving outcomes and increasing survival rates for individuals battling this disease. Cancer has emerged as a significant health challenge globally, and early detection can make a profound difference in treatment options and prognosis.

Prior to this, Professor Vaishali Walke, Head of Pathology, shed light on the significant role of biomarkers in the management of breast cancer. Professor Deepti Joshi provided information about the ongoing DIAMonds project in the Pathology Department at AIIMS Bhopal. This project, funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), offers free biomarker testing for breast and lung cancer.

As a guest speaker in the program, Professor Sandeep Mathur, Senior Professor of Pathology at AIIMS New Delhi, provided insights into prognostic and predictive biomarkers in breast cancer, enlightening participants about advancements in breast pathology science.

The workshop saw participation from over 65 representatives, including members and postgraduate students from various medical colleges and hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.

The post-lunch sessions included practical training on FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) techniques, demonstrations of immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests, breast tissue calculations, and slide viewing.
