CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Environment Day, tree plantation was carried out in various healthcare institutions under the campaign “One Tree in Mother’s Name.” Tree saplings were planted at the Office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) and across other health centers, where participants also took a pledge to protect and nurture these plants.
At the CMHO Office campus in Bhopal, Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari planted medicinal plants like Sindoor, Amla, and Tulsi. He educated the departmental staff about the vital role of plants in human life and led them in taking an oath for their conservation. The theme for this year’s Environment Day is “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
As part of the environmental protection programs held in government health institutions, local citizens were informed about the harmful effects of environmental imbalance on human health. To raise awareness, various activities such as poster competitions, rallies, and rangoli-making events were organized.
Efforts were also made to educate about biomedical waste segregation, sanitation, infection control, and efficient use of electricity and water.
At all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the district, awareness was raised about reducing environmental pollution through sustainable food practices, energy and water conservation, rejection of single-use plastics, adopting healthy lifestyles, minimizing e-waste and solid waste, and proper waste management.
Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, Chief Medical and Health Officer of Bhopal, emphasized that environmental pollution primarily affects elderly individuals, patients with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and children. Contaminated air, water, and food directly harm human health. He also highlighted the increasing incidence of diseases such as asthma, respiratory problems, cancer, cardiovascular issues, stroke, food-borne illnesses, mental health disorders, stress, neurological diseases, and vector-borne and seasonal diseases caused by pollution and climate change.
Under the National Program on Climate Change and Human Health, the Health Department regularly organizes inter-departmental workshops and awareness programs. In Indian culture, trees and plants have always been accorded a place of honor to emphasize their significance in life.
