CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: MP Bhoj Open University Organizes Lecture Series on “Historical, Social, and Spiritual Contributions of Tribal Heroes” in Collaboration with Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad

Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University, in collaboration with Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, Bhopal Metropolitan, organized a one-day lecture series on the theme “Historical, Social, and Spiritual Contributions of Tribal Heroes.” The main objective of the event was to introduce students to the rich historical legacy and contributions of tribal communities.

The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, Yogiraj Parte, State General Secretary of Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, stated in his address that such seminars are essential to inform students about lesser-known aspects of Indian history. He emphasized that India is home to over 300 tribal communities, each with its unique traditions and culture. These communities mainly inhabit regions rich in forests and minerals.

Yogiraj Parte noted that whenever India faced foreign invasions, the tribal societies resisted with courage, and their struggles deserve respect and recognition. He particularly mentioned Rani Durgavati, who ruled the Mahakaushal region for 12 years and fought bravely against Akbar’s empire. He also referenced Maharana Pratap’s alliance with the Bhils, and Tilka Manjhi of Jharkhand, who organized the Santhal tribe to fight the British and attained martyrdom.

Parte further highlighted that tribal communities have always upheld human values and are deeply connected to nature. He stated that the tribal way of life truly embodies the ideal of “Atithi Devo Bhava”, worshiping trees, rivers, and mountains as deities.

Prof. Sanjay Tiwari, Vice Chancellor of MP Bhoj Open University, presided over the event and remarked that tribal communities have consistently fought for water, forests, and land, and are the true original inhabitants of this land. He also acknowledged the significant role of women in these societies and their harmonious coexistence with nature.

Prof. L.P. Jharia, Director at the university, expressed gratitude and stated that the history of tribal society is immensely rich, marked by self-reliance and high moral values. He also announced plans to establish a Tribal Studies Research Chair at the university to facilitate in-depth academic research on tribal communities.

The event was conducted by Prof. Ratan Suryavanshi, and on this occasion, the book “Janajati Gaurav” (Tribal Pride) was presented to Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Tiwari by Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad. The program witnessed the presence of a large number of students, faculty members, and university staff.
