CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: To make tribal girl students aware of their rights, safety and self-defence, Barwani Police is running the Raksha Sakhi campaign. Under the campaign, awareness programmes are being organised in Scheduled Tribe post-matric hostels. During the programme, students are being given information on laws related to women’s safety and protection from cybercrime.
In the programme organised by Barwani Police, the students are being informed in detail about the Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Prevention Act, domestic violence, dowry harassment and crimes against women. They are also being made aware of legal provisions created for the protection of women and girls and are being encouraged to remain alert about their rights.
Barwani Superintendent of Police Padmavilochan Shukla said that, in view of the rising number of cybercrime cases, important information is also being given on the safe use of social media, protection from online fraud and digital security. In addition, students are being made aware of compliance with traffic rules and road safety, with a message to become responsible citizens.
The students are being informed about self-defence, self-confidence and ways to seek police assistance in any kind of emergency, helping build confidence among them. During this, detailed information is being provided about the women helpline 1090, cyber helpline 1930, Dial-112 and other police assistance services so that these can be used effectively when needed.
The students are showing active participation in issues related to women’s safety and awareness during the programme, and are also being encouraged to pledge to keep themselves safe, aware and empowered. Barwani Police’s Raksha Sakhi campaign is emerging as an important initiative towards connecting girls and women in tribal and rural areas with safety, dignity and self-confidence.
