CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A one-day workshop was organized at the Gauranjani Auditorium of Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal, on the occasion of National Tribal Pride Day. On this occasion, Higher Education, Technical Education, and AYUSH Minister Inder Singh Parmar emphasized the need to present the historical, social, and spiritual contributions of the tribal community in the right perspective. He stated that the struggles, bravery, and sacrifices of tribal heroes have not been appropriately documented in history, leading to an injustice to their legacy.
Proud Contributions of the Tribal Community
In his address, Minister Parmar highlighted that tribal heroes have been a source of inspiration not just for their community but for the entire nation. They sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle, but their contributions have often been overlooked in historical narratives. He appreciated the National Education Policy 2020, calling it an opportunity to rewrite history from an Indian perspective.
Parmar also stressed the deep connection of the tribal society with nature. Their traditions embody gratitude toward natural resources, such as water bodies, the sun, and other energy sources. He praised the scientific and artistic achievements of tribal communities, citing examples like their iron tools that remain rust-free even today.
Significance of National Tribal Pride Day
During the workshop, Anupam Rajan, Principal Secretary and Director of Higher Education, stated that acknowledging the contributions of the tribal community is a moral responsibility. He lamented the neglect of tribal sacrifices in the freedom struggle.
Additional Secretary Lakshman Singh Markam pointed out that Madhya Pradesh was the first to conceptualize Tribal Pride Day, which gained national recognition in 2021 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He referred to the tribal community as the most vocal and powerful group that resisted British rule.
Focus on Research and Study
Minister Parmar announced plans to enrich the libraries of all universities and colleges in the state with literature related to Indian knowledge traditions and tribal contributions. Additionally, research and studies focusing on the achievements of tribal heroes will be promoted.
Workshop Activities
The workshop included discussions on the sacrifices and historical, social, and spiritual contributions of tribal heroes. Special activities were planned to commemorate the 500th birth anniversary of Veerangana Rani Durgavati and the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Efforts were made to bring the legacy of tribal heroes to students through essay competitions and exhibitions in educational institutions. Tribal Pride exhibitions will be set up in every college and university.
Inauguration and Conclusion
The workshop was inaugurated by subject expert Deepmala Rawat from the Raj Bhavan Tribal Cell. Commissioner of Higher Education Nishant Barbade expressed gratitude. The event was attended by vice-chancellors, principals, subject experts, and academicians from various universities across the state.
This workshop, which emphasized the importance of presenting and passing on the contributions of tribal heroes to the new generation, was widely appreciated. It underscored the significance of bringing the glorious history of the tribal community into the national spotlight.
