Tripura pulled off a major upset in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27, defeating two-time champions Saurashtra by 133 runs. In the Elite Group-B match played at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala, Tripura defended a target of 342 runs and bowled Saurashtra out for 208 in their second innings. With this victory, Tripura registered their first win of the ongoing season after four matches.
Saurashtra needed 342 runs to win, but the team resumed its second innings on the fourth day at 131 for seven and soon lost its eighth wicket. Experienced batter Arpit Vasavada fought hard, scoring 89 off 189 balls. He tried to steady the side with a 59-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Neel Pandya, but did not get enough support from the other end. Vasavada was eventually run out by an accurate throw from Tripura captain Manisankar Murasingh, and Saurashtra’s innings ended at 208.
Off-spinner Sandeep Sarkar and fast bowler Abhijit Sarkar played key roles in Tripura’s win. They took four and three wickets respectively in the second innings. Sandeep finished with eight wickets in the match. Tripura’s Sridam Paul was named Player of the Match for his fine performance, scoring 86 in the first innings and 50 in the second.
After this win, Tripura moved to seventh place in the Group-B points table with six points, while Saurashtra remained third with 13 points.
