CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: US President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing a new arms deal for Israel worth about $2.8 billion. The proposed package includes 40,000 heavy bombs weighing 2,000 pounds, or about 900 kilograms. According to US officials, it will include 20,000 MK-84 and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. However, the deal has not yet received final approval.

According to the report, the US administration has informally notified the relevant congressional committees about the proposal. A large part of the package is to be financed through the United States’ foreign military assistance system.

The consignment of these bombs is also considered significant because, in 2024, the administration of then President Joe Biden had halted a shipment of bombs in the same category. At the time, concerns had been raised that their use in densely populated areas such as Gaza could cause large-scale civilian casualties. After Trump became president again, that hold was lifted.

Some versions of the 2,000-pound bombs included in the proposed deal are designed to target underground sites, while others can create a broad explosive impact.
