CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Washington. Signs are emerging of a continued decline in US President Donald Trump’s popularity. According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted in September, only 32 percent of American adults approved of Trump’s performance, while 68 percent disapproved. It was described as the lowest approval level recorded in surveys during his presidential term so far.
Another concern for Trump is that support has also weakened among voters of his own Republican Party. In the September survey, Trump’s approval among Republican voters stood at 73 percent, down from 82 percent a week earlier. Inflation, the rising cost of living and dissatisfaction over the war with Iran were cited among the main reasons.
Pressure is increasing on the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November. According to a recent Reuters report, several Republican candidates are adopting a strategy of distancing themselves from Trump’s policies or placing greater emphasis on local issues. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is trying to strengthen its position in several competitive seats.
Experts say Trump’s falling popularity could affect the Republican Party’s efforts to retain its majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate. However, the election results are not yet certain, and political conditions may change before voting takes place.
