CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In a major announcement after talks with Putin, US President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will buy diesel from Russia following his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Trump, Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the United States and the global market. After that, the plan is to send another 500,000 tonnes in November, followed by an additional 1 million tonnes of diesel. Trump said reducing fuel prices for American farmers, truck drivers and ordinary citizens is his priority.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticised the agreement between the United States and Russia. He said allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is like investing in a war that should be ended. According to Zelensky, the deal will give Russia additional economic resources, which it could use to continue the war against Ukraine.

Along with the announcement to buy diesel from Russia, the US administration has also granted a temporary waiver from restrictions on the import of Russian diesel. Under permission from the US Treasury Department, Russian diesel can be supplied under prescribed conditions until April 2027. The move is being seen as a shift in the US policy of limiting Russia’s energy earnings.

Midterm elections are scheduled to be held in the United States on November 3. In this situation, rising diesel prices could become a political challenge for Trump’s Republican Party. Diesel is important for agriculture, freight and the transport sector. However, energy experts believe it is not clear whether the additional supply from Russia will prove sufficient to keep prices in the US market lower for a long period.

The announcement on buying diesel from Russia came at a time when a Ukrainian delegation was in the United States discussing possible ways to end the war. Zelensky said his country feels its team is being used only for talks. He appealed to the United States to take concrete steps to reduce mutual tensions with Russia.
