Heads of state and government leaders from many countries will present their views on global issues during the session. According to the United Nations’ official programme, the general debate will run from September 22 to 28. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed openness to the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Pezeshkian has also arrived in New York to attend the General Assembly meeting. However, there has been no official confirmation or fixed schedule yet for a meeting between the two leaders.
Amid tensions between the United States and Iran, a possible meeting is being viewed as an important diplomatic development. Trump has said regarding Iran that he is at the stage of making a decision. Attention is also focused on the prospects for talks between the two countries. Issues including Ukraine, West Asia, Iran, Gaza, global security, climate change and artificial intelligence are also expected to be at the centre of discussions during the General Assembly. Iranian President Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday.
