CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An investigation is continuing into the attack on an Indian pilot aboard a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. US President Donald Trump has said investigators are examining the possibility that the aircraft’s co-pilot had links to Iran. Trump said that if Iran’s role emerges, strict action would be taken against it. However, investigating agencies have not yet confirmed any link with Iran.
The incident took place on Flydubai flight FZ1073. In the cockpit, the co-pilot allegedly attacked Indian captain Smit Machhar, after which the aircraft suddenly descended by around 14,000 feet. Despite being injured, Machhar opened the cockpit door, after which passengers and crew members overpowered the co-pilot. The aircraft was later landed safely at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has now handed the accused co-pilot over to the United Arab Emirates. UAE investigating agencies are examining the motive behind the incident and any possible terrorist objective or pre-planned conspiracy. Various claims have emerged about a possible Iran link, but until the investigation is completed, it cannot be treated as a confirmed fact.
