CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Washington. US President Donald Trump has once again put forward his claim for the Nobel Peace Prize. A day before the announcement of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said he had played a role in resolving eight wars over the past year and had prevented several conflicts from escalating.
He said he had done things that, according to him, no other president had done. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he was not certain about the award decision, but if he was not honoured, it would be damaging for the Nobel Committee.
In support of his claim, he referred to eight conflicts, including India-Pakistan, Israel-Iran, Israel-Hamas, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Cambodia-Thailand and Congo-Rwanda.
Trump also claimed that he helped secure the release of hostages and succeeded in preventing several potential wars through tariffs and economic pressure. He said his efforts had saved millions of lives. However, in some of the conflicts he cited, violence has resumed or agreements have not yet been fully implemented.
On Trump’s claim regarding the India-Pakistan conflict, India has already made it clear that the decision to halt military action in May 2025 was taken through direct contact between the two countries and that there was no third-party mediation. Despite this, Trump has repeatedly claimed a role in the development.
Trump also referred to former US President Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 and said Obama himself did not know why he had received the award. The Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the 2026 prize on Friday.
