CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The administration of US President Donald Trump has taken action against eight major technology companies linked to the employment-based green card process. Under the decision announced on October 8, 2026, the PERM process of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, Cognizant, Microsoft, Adobe and Capgemini has been suspended. The US administration has cited an investigation into alleged irregularities and the impact on the employment of American workers.
What is the PERM process? PERM, or Permanent Labor Certification, is an important stage in the employment-based process for obtaining a green card. Through it, companies can sponsor foreign employees for permanent residence in the United States. During the suspension, new applications from the companies concerned will not be accepted, and the processing of pending applications may also be halted.
What will be the impact on Indian employees? The decision could create difficulties for Indian professionals who are in the process of obtaining a green card through these companies. New applicants may face delays in starting the process, while employees with pending cases may have to wait to move forward. If the suspension continues for a long period, it could increase difficulties for employees planning to settle permanently in the United States.
However, this decision is not a ban on visas for all Indians. It does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas, nor does it automatically revoke green cards that have already been issued. The impact will depend on each employee’s immigration status.
Tata Consultancy Services has said that the move is not expected to have any significant impact on its workforce strategy or client services. The company also said that over the past two years, its PERM applications were in single digits.
