CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: US President Donald Trump has thanked billionaire businessman Elon Musk for an initiative to invest in the future of America’s children. Musk has announced that he plans to give one share of his space company SpaceX to every child in America next year. Trump described the initiative as an act of extraordinary generosity and said it was in line with the thinking behind the “Trump Accounts” programme launched to financially strengthen children’s future.

Trump expressed his gratitude on social media platform X, thanking Musk in a post. He said Musk’s initiative to give SpaceX shares to American children through Trump Accounts was commendable. According to Trump, the aim of the programme is to encourage the private sector and entrepreneurs to invest in children’s future so they can gain economic opportunities later in life.

Elon Musk wrote on X on October 19 that he would give one SpaceX share to every child in America next year. He described it as the first of many possible initiatives. However, Musk has not yet clarified which age group of children would be eligible under the plan, what citizenship or residency conditions would apply, or through what process the shares would be distributed.

There are about 72 million children under the age of 18 in the United States. If each child receives one share, the total value of the initiative could be about $10.5 billion or more, depending on the market value of the shares. This estimate could change according to the share price and the number of eligible children. For now, it should be considered the estimated value of the proposed donation, not a completed share distribution process.

Trump Accounts are investment accounts created for children in the United States, aimed at building financial capital for their future. Under the programme, investments can be made in the accounts of eligible children through government contributions and private donations according to prescribed rules. Musk’s announcement is being viewed in connection with this programme, although official confirmation of the detailed process for distributing his shares is still awaited.

Relations between Trump and Musk have seen ups and downs over the past few years. Musk had worked in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, but later separated from the administration and also criticised some policies. In recent months, the two have again appeared together at public events. Trump’s response to the announcement of shares for children indicates renewed dialogue between the two. Attention is now focused on the implementation of Musk’s plan, eligibility rules and the timeline for the transfer of shares. If the plan is implemented as announced, a large number of American children could get an opportunity to hold a stake in the company.
