CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The possibility of former President Donald Trump reinstating a TikTok ban has sparked discussions as ByteDance, the app’s parent company, faces intensified scrutiny. TikTok has long been accused of posing national security risks due to its ties to China, with allegations that U.S. user data could be accessed by the Chinese government.
During his presidency, Trump sought to either ban TikTok or force ByteDance to divest its U.S. operations, citing data privacy concerns. However, President Joe Biden’s administration took a different approach, opting to negotiate with ByteDance and initiate security reviews rather than pursuing an outright ban. Despite these efforts, skepticism among lawmakers persists.
ByteDance has proposed safeguarding U.S. user data by relocating it to domestic servers and implementing additional transparency measures. However, with bipartisan pressure to curb Chinese influence in tech, the fate of TikTok remains uncertain.
If Trump returns to power in 2024, his administration might reignite efforts to ban TikTok, reshaping the app’s future in one of its largest markets. This could also escalate U.S.-China tensions and affect millions of users who rely on TikTok for entertainment and commerce.
