CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Trump warns of strict action against those leaking information on US strikes

US President Donald Trump has taken a tough stand against those leaking confidential information linked to US military operations. He has warned that strict action could be taken against people who make sensitive information related to military action public. After this statement, debate has intensified in the United States over national security, government secrecy and responsibility in making information public.

Trump expressed anger over the unauthorised disclosure of information related to military operations, saying it could affect US security and the effectiveness of operations. During war or military action, if information related to attack plans, timing, targets and military resources becomes public, it can endanger the safety of personnel involved in the operation.

In his speech, Trump referred to the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites in June 2025. He claimed that sensitive information linked to the military operation had been leaked to the media. According to him, information about the take-off and arrival times of B-2 stealth bombers involved in the strike had become public, forcing changes in the timing of the operation. However, independent confirmation of all aspects of this claim is required.

During an election rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on October 14, Trump spoke of harsh punishment, including sending those who leak information to jail and shooting them. He also criticised media organisations and alleged that some journalists publish incorrect or sensitive information related to military operations.

Trump’s statement has intensified debate over government secrecy, national security and press freedom. The unauthorised disclosure of sensitive information related to military operations can create security risks, but reporting on matters of public interest is also considered important in journalism. In such cases, questions arise about the balance between secrecy laws, press freedom and legal process. In the United States, unauthorised disclosure of confidential government information can be punishable under the law in some circumstances. However, a person cannot be punished merely on the basis of a statement by the president; applicable law and prescribed legal process must be followed.
