CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Reports of growing defence cooperation between Bangladesh and Türkiye have brought regional security into focus. Bangladesh plans to establish a joint drone manufacturing unit in Bogura with Türkiye’s support. Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Local Government, Mir Shahe Alam, said in July that the project would be developed near the proposed Bangladesh Air Force base and Bogura Airport.
In addition, reports have emerged that the Bangladesh Army is setting up a UAV regiment with US assistance and developing a ground data terminal with technical support from Türkiye. Drones in the UAV regiment could be used for tasks such as surveillance, intelligence gathering and border security. Bangladesh has also increased its border surveillance capacity. In September 2026, the Bangladesh Border Guard reported the deployment of medium- and short-range drones, surveillance drones and anti-drone systems. Thermal and night-vision equipment has also been installed along the border with India.
India has been monitoring defence and security-related changes taking place in the region. However, available reports do not confirm that India has lodged any formal objection to this Türkiye-Bangladesh drone project. India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in August, in the context of broader regional security developments, that New Delhi monitors all developments that could affect national security.
