CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The political landscape of Tamil Nadu has undergone a significant transformation as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, secured a crucial majority with the support of Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Left parties including CPI and CPI(M). The alliance marks a decisive moment in the post-election government formation process, following a closely contested Assembly election that resulted in a fractured mandate.
TVK initially emerged as the single largest party but fell short of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. However, strategic negotiations and alliance-building efforts enabled the party to cross the required threshold, paving the way for Vijay to stake a claim to form the government. The support from ideologically diverse parties highlights a shared objective of political change and coalition governance in the state.
Governor-level consultations and discussions over proof of majority have played a key role in shaping the current political developments. The alliance also reflects shifting voter sentiment and the weakening dominance of traditional Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu politics.
Observers believe this coalition could reshape governance priorities in the state, focusing on development, social justice, and coalition stability. However, challenges remain regarding coordination among diverse ideological partners and long-term political stability in the newly formed alliance-led government.
