CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Two newborns died after a fire broke out late Monday night in the Special Newborn Care Unit of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Adilabad, Telangana. The incident occurred at around 11:50 p.m. Panic spread through the hospital after the fire started.
According to officials, 28 other children admitted to the ward were evacuated safely in time. A fire tender reached the hospital after receiving information, and the blaze was brought under control. One of the deceased newborns was said to be five days old. Preliminary reports cited an air conditioner or an electrical short circuit as the possible cause of the fire, but officials have not yet confirmed the actual cause. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the incident and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased newborns. He directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring and better treatment of children admitted to the hospital. He also called for a detailed investigation into the incident and for strengthening fire and electrical safety measures in hospitals across the state.
