CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Two Pilibhit SDMs put on waiting list, posting orders cancelled

Administrative action has intensified in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district in connection with alleged irregularities involving 13,150 votes in the voter list. After the matter came to light, both sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) were first removed from Pilibhit. The government has now also cancelled the orders for their new postings and placed both officers on the waiting list.

According to information, complaints had surfaced over irregularities involving a large number of votes in the voter list. In view of the seriousness of the matter, an inquiry and review were initiated at the administrative level. As part of this, two SDMs posted in Pilibhit were removed from their posts a day earlier. Orders were then issued assigning them postings at other places, but the government has cancelled those orders as well.

After the cancellation of their new postings, neither officer has been given charge of any new post for now. They have been kept on the waiting list. The action is being seen as an important step towards fixing administrative accountability in the case of alleged irregularities in the voter list. According to administrative sources, efforts are being made through the inquiry to find out how such a large number of irregularities occurred in the voter list and who is responsible for them. Further action may be taken on the basis of the facts that emerge in the inquiry. For now, the government’s decision has created a stir in the administrative establishment. Further decisions are awaited regarding the officers’ new postings and the inquiry into the matter.
