CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Udaipur. New claims are emerging as the investigation progresses in Rajasthan’s much-discussed alleged ₹2 crore bribery case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has reportedly obtained an audio recording in which, during a conversation between the middleman and the complainant, there is a reference to ₹1 crore from the bribe amount being sent “higher up”. The ACB is now trying to establish who the alleged amount was meant to reach.
Special Operations Group Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Soni and alleged middleman Sajjan Singh are under investigation in the case. It is alleged that a bribe of ₹2 crore was demanded in exchange for providing relief in action linked to 272 plots in Udaipur. The ACB had arrested the alleged middleman while accepting the money. According to the ACB, the trap included ₹4 lakh in genuine currency, while the remaining amount was in dummy notes.
Mukesh Soni’s mobile phone is also being considered important in the investigation. According to the ACB, his iPhone is suspected to contain key evidence related to the alleged bribe transaction and the case. As officials have not been able to obtain the phone’s password, technical experts are being consulted. The court has extended the custody of Mukesh Soni and Sajjan Singh until 3 October.
In addition, the complainant has alleged that some belongings and documents were seized during the arrest, while the accused officer has denied these allegations. The ACB is examining all aspects related to the alleged bribe amount, the mobile phone, the audio recording and the seized belongings. The allegations that have surfaced in the case will be finally confirmed only after the investigation and judicial process are completed.
