CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has openly acknowledged that the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) lost the recent Assembly elections due to internal conflicts, ego clashes, and disagreements over seat-sharing among the alliance partners.
In an interview with Saamana, Thackeray said that while factors like EVM issues, fake voters, and schemes like Ladki Bahin did have some impact, the real damage came from within. “In the Lok Sabha polls, we sacrificed seats we had won multiple times to ensure the alliance’s success. But in the Assembly polls, the same coordination was missing. Everyone started working for their own victory, not the alliance’s,” he said.
Thackeray explained that in the Lok Sabha elections, though the candidates lacked official symbols, there was clarity on who the candidates were. In contrast, during the Assembly polls, there were symbols, but no clarity on candidates or seat allocation, leading to confusion at the grassroots level.
He further warned that there’s no point in reuniting the alliance unless past mistakes are corrected. “Ego and selfishness replaced the sense of unity we had earlier,” he added.
Highlighting the performance of the MVA government during the pandemic, Thackeray lamented that despite successful initiatives like loan waivers, Shiv Bhojan Thali, MSP, and effective law and order, the government failed to communicate these to the public. “Other states faltered during COVID, but we stood strong. Still, populist schemes and money power from rivals overshadowed our work,” he said.
Thackeray’s candid remarks suggest that MVA’s future depends heavily on introspection, coordination, and setting aside egos for a united political strategy.
