CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Kyiv. Ukraine has claimed the large-scale use of unmanned ground robots in the Russia-Ukraine war. According to the Ukrainian Army’s Third Army Corps, attacks were carried out on Russian positions with the help of explosive-laden robots and drones during Operation Vivaldi in the Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian Army said it regained control of five villages and three other settlements during the operation. The army claimed it conducted the campaign across about 125 square kilometres and liberated nearly 50 square kilometres of territory from Russian occupation.
The use of explosive robots has been described as the key feature of the operation. Heavy drones carried these unmanned ground vehicles more than 10 kilometres behind Russian front lines. The robots were then used to target Russian troop positions, command centres and logistics-related sites. The Ukrainian Army said this reduced the need to send its soldiers directly into high-risk areas.
The Third Army Corps also claimed that more than 15,700 missions were completed during the operation and around 3,300 tonnes of supplies were delivered. According to the army, about 3,000 Russian soldiers were claimed to have been killed or wounded in the campaign. However, these figures and claims of territorial control have not been independently verified.
