CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Sanket Bhondwe, Urban Administration and Development Commissioner, stated that the department is making continuous efforts to economically and socially empower urban women. Currently, in 55 urban local bodies across the state, 1,028 women from 312 self-help groups have been entrusted with critical responsibilities such as water quality testing under the Amrit Mitra initiative.

These groups are also successfully managing public parks and participating in plantation and protection activities under the Central Government’s Women for Trees program. Around 300 women from Madhya Pradesh will enthusiastically participate in the Amrit Mitra Festival. Women Amrit Mitras from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and other states are also joining this national event.

The Amrit Mitra Festival is being organized at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi under Amrit 2.0, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, to highlight the invaluable contributions of self-help group women. Representatives from urban local bodies, senior officials, and women working as Amrit Mitras from across the country will participate in this national gathering.

Recognition of Excellence:

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, will honour women who have demonstrated outstanding performance in water conservation, sanitation, and urban management under the Amrit Mitra initiative. This event will recognize exemplary work, while also strengthening the vision of sustainable urban development through women’s leadership.

Sanket Bhondwe congratulated all the women Amrit Mitras traveling to New Delhi and wished them a bright future. He stated that the Amrit Mitra initiative is an inspiring example of women’s active participation and leadership in urban development. The Commissioner expressed confidence that the women of Madhya Pradesh will effectively showcase the state’s innovations and exemplary work on this national platform, serving as an inspiration for other states.
