CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: People installing solar panels on the roofs of their homes in Uttar Pradesh may get major relief from the government. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible domestic consumers receive a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 from the central government. In addition, when the extra state-level assistance available in Uttar Pradesh is added, the total benefit can reach up to ₹1.08 lakh.
The highest benefit is available on a 3 kW solar system. Under the central scheme, a subsidy of ₹30,000 is available for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system and a maximum of ₹78,000 for a 3 kW or higher system. In Uttar Pradesh, after adding UPNEDA’s additional assistance, the total subsidy on a 3 kW system can be up to ₹1,08,000.
How will consumers get more than ₹1 lakh? Under the state assistance in Uttar Pradesh, an additional subsidy of ₹15,000 per kW, up to a maximum of ₹30,000, is stated to be provided. In such a case, on a 3 kW system, the central subsidy of ₹78,000 and state assistance of ₹30,000 together can take the total amount up to ₹1,08,000.
Will the electricity bill become completely zero? After solar panels are installed, the electricity bill can become very low or, in some cases, close to zero. However, it is not certain that every consumer’s bill will become completely zero. This depends on the capacity of the system, household electricity consumption, weather and the net metering arrangement. The objective of the scheme is to enable households to generate their own electricity and reduce power expenses.
How to apply? Eligible domestic consumers can apply on the national PM Surya Ghar portal. After the application, processes such as technical approval from the concerned DISCOM, installation of the solar system by an authorised or empanelled vendor and net metering have to be completed. As per the rules of the subsidy scheme, the subsidy is provided through DBT into the bank account.
What should be kept in mind? Before installing solar panels, consumers should check whether their electricity connection and home meet the eligibility conditions of the scheme. It may be necessary to use equipment that meets the prescribed standards and an authorised vendor to qualify for the subsidy. Before applying, consumers should check the official PM Surya Ghar portal and the current rules of UPNEDA, as rules related to subsidy and eligibility may change from time to time.
