CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Growing trade tensions between the United States and Canada have taken a new turn. The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to ban imports of some Canadian dairy products and several types of alcoholic beverages. The ban will take effect from September 29, 2026. Imports of some Canadian motorcycles have also been restricted.
The US administration described the move as a response to alleged discrimination by Canada against American businesses. According to the White House, talks continued for several weeks over trade restrictions and tariffs imposed by Canada on American dairy and alcohol products, but the two countries could not reach an agreement. The United States then acted under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930.
The decision could further deepen the US-Canada trade dispute. Canada had earlier imposed retaliatory duties on about $20 billion worth of American products. Following the new US restrictions, trade talks and relations between the two countries are expected to come under increased pressure.
