Could US Use ‘Mother of All Bombs’ Against Iran Amid Tensions?

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Could US Use 'Mother of All Bombs' Against Iran Amid Tensions?

Amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, discussion has again intensified around US military strategy and the possible use of powerful bombs. In the context of US President Donald Trump’s stance and statements being made on Iran, the question is being raised whether the United States could use the “Mother of All Bombs” against Iran. However, without any official confirmation of such an attack, it should be viewed only as a possible military action.

What is the “Mother of All Bombs”? The “Mother of All Bombs” is the popular name for the US GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb. It is an extremely powerful non-nuclear bomb designed to create an explosive impact over a large area. It was first used in Afghanistan in April 2017. It is not a nuclear weapon, but is counted among the most powerful conventional explosives.

How possible is its use against Iran? Any decision on a major US military operation against Iran would depend on several strategic, military and political factors. The nature of the target, the usefulness of the weapon, possible civilian casualties and the impact on regional security would be important considerations in such a decision. The availability of a weapon does not in itself amount to proof that it will be used.

World watching Trump’s stance: Tensions between Iran and the United States could affect West Asian security, global oil supplies and international diplomacy. In the event of a major attack, fears of a widening regional conflict could also arise. Therefore, it is important to draw conclusions about any possible military action only on the basis of official statements from the US administration and credible information. At present, without confirmation that the “Mother of All Bombs” will be dropped on Iran, this claim cannot be presented as fact. To understand the actual situation, it is necessary to monitor official announcements and independently verified reports.
