CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: After nearly a month of calm between the United States and Iran, military confrontation has resumed in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military targeted two rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak Island. According to US officials, personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were preparing to fire rockets from these launchers to deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command described the operation as a limited and precise military strike. It is the first publicly confirmed US military action against Iran since late July. The US side said the main objective of the action was to keep sea lanes in the Strait of Hormuz secure and prevent disruption to the movement of international vessels.
After the strike on Larak Island, Iran warned the United States of a response and later claimed it had fired missiles targeting US military bases in Jordan. Jordan’s military said it intercepted eight missiles fired by Iran. However, there has been no independent confirmation of claims about damage to US bases from the Iranian attack.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy and maritime trade routes. Any prolonged military conflict there could affect oil supplies, global markets and international maritime trade. Crude oil prices have also risen after the latest attacks.
The latest confrontation between the United States and Iran has increased fears that conflict in the Middle East could widen again. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Iran does not want war, but will give a decisive response in the event of an attack. The world is now watching the next military moves by both countries.
