CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Washington. The United States has conducted an underground chemical explosion experiment at the Nevada National Security Site to strengthen its ability to detect low-yield nuclear explosions. According to the US National Nuclear Security Administration, the experiment was not a nuclear test, but a scientific test carried out using non-nuclear high-explosive material.

The United States particularly wants to improve its ability to detect such “decoupled” explosions, in which a blast is carried out inside an underground chamber and seismic signals may be relatively weak. US officials have also linked this technique to China’s alleged underground nuclear test in 2020. However, China has rejected that allegation, and the international monitoring body did not consider the available data conclusive at the time. According to the United States, the data obtained from the experiment will be used to improve scientific models and computational systems that identify underground nuclear explosions and assess their nature. Internationally, seismic monitoring is also among the key technologies used to detect nuclear explosions.
