CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the Uttar Pradesh Government organised a special ceremony in Lucknow to honour outstanding weavers and artisans for their exceptional contribution to preserving the state's rich handloom heritage. During the event, the prestigious Sant Kabir State-Level Handloom Awards were presented to distinguished craftsmen in recognition of their excellence, innovation, and dedication to the traditional weaving sector.
Beneficiaries of the Chief Minister Handloom and Powerloom Industry Development Scheme and the Jhalkari Bai Kori Handloom and Powerloom Development Scheme also received financial assistance through cheque distribution. In addition, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged with major buyers of handloom products to strengthen market access, expand business opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of artisans across the state. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding Uttar Pradesh's rich handloom and handicraft traditions while promoting sustainable growth for the sector.
He emphasized that the dignity, self-respect, and prosperity of artisans remain a top priority for the double-engine government. The initiative reflects the state's continued efforts to empower traditional craftsmen through financial support, market linkages, skill development, and policy initiatives, ensuring that Uttar Pradesh's globally admired handloom legacy continues to flourish while creating greater employment and economic opportunities for future generations.
