Uttarakhand raises monthly stipend for MBBS interns to Rs 25,000

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: There is major relief for MBBS students doing internships in government medical colleges in Uttarakhand. At a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, a proposal to increase the monthly stipend of MBBS interns from Rs 17,000 to Rs 25,000 was approved.

The decision will benefit intern doctors undergoing training at five government medical colleges in the state. These include the government medical colleges in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar and Almora. MBBS and PG courses are conducted at these institutions.

The stipend increase has come at a time when medical interns and resident doctors had long been raising demands over higher honorarium and work pressure. In Uttarakhand too, protests by interns and other medical trainee doctors had affected regular services at government hospitals, though emergency and ICU services continued.

With the government’s decision, MBBS interns will receive an additional Rs 8,000 every month. This is expected to provide financial relief to students during their medical training.
