CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Wellington. Young Indian cricket team batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi finally got the chance to play at his preferred opening position in the third T20 match against New Zealand. In the match being played in Wellington on Tuesday, 27 October, Vaibhav opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Earlier, in the second T20, he had been sent in to bat at No. 3, where he could score only four runs off eight balls. The team management has now changed his batting order.
The picture from the practice session with Gambhir had offered hints. A day before the match, during the practice session, head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen explaining a few batting-related points to Vaibhav. In the picture shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Vaibhav and Sanju Samson were also seen with Gambhir. After this picture, speculation about a change in the team’s batting order had intensified. Those discussions ended after Vaibhav was sent in to open in the third T20.
Sanju Samson gets chance at No. 3. With Vaibhav moving to the opening slot, Sanju Samson’s batting order was changed. According to the report, the plan is to send Sanju in at No. 3. This will give the team an opportunity to use Vaibhav’s aggressive batting and Abhishek Sharma’s experience at the top of the order.
The bat had not worked in the second T20. Against New Zealand in the second T20, Vaibhav had been sent in to bat at No. 3. He was dismissed after making four runs off eight balls. After that, questions were raised about his batting position. Vaibhav is known as a batter who scores quickly in the powerplay and puts pressure on bowlers in the opening overs.
India have a chance to win the series. The Indian team had won the first two matches and was leading the five-match T20 series 2-0. In the third match, New Zealand batted first and scored 198 for three, setting India a target of 199 runs. The decision to send Vaibhav in as opener has come at a time when India are trying to take an unassailable lead in the series. All eyes are now on Vaibhav’s innings. At his preferred position, he has got the opportunity to play aggressively from the start, while the team management will hope that this top-order combination helps achieve the target.
